Geography
South-East Queensland. Algester covers southern parts of the City of Brisbane and parts of Logan City. Algester covers the suburbs of Algester, Parkinson, Forestdale, Hillcrest, Browns Plains, Calamvale, Acacia Ridge and Archerfield.
History
The seat of Algester has existed since 2001, when it replaced the former seat of Archerfield, which had existed since 1972. Labor has won both of these seats at every election since 1972, except for 2012.
Karen Struthers won Archerfield in 1998, following on after the retirement of Len Ardill. Struthers moved to the new seat of Algester in 2001, and was re-elected there in 2004, 2006 and 2009. Struthers served as a minister in the Bligh government from 2009 to 2012.
In 2012, Struthers was defeated by LNP candidate Anthony Shorten. Shorten held the seat for one term, losing in 2015 to Labor’s Leeanne Enoch. Enoch has been re-elected in 2017 and 2020.

Starting at the top with looking at which candidates have announced so far (beyond the LNP obvious ones) and Algester has an independent running, by name of Rhys Bosley. An independent last ran in Algester in 2015 and got 3.65% of the vote. In fact, looking at Algester’s past election results, there has never been more than 4 candidates standing! Unless there is some 2012 wipeout, easy ALP Retain.
There was some speculation for a while that Leeanne Enoch was set to retire. That seems to have died down, she and her team have been out campaigning for her re-election. Either way, safe ALP retain.
despite this being one of only two seats south of the brisbane river thats at quota will rpbably undergo the biggest change and be split in two given its right in the middle of the defeciets and surplus on either side
Correct – I expect this to be the last term that Algester is on the electoral map. New seats to the west around Ripley and south around Jimboomba to cater for the growth.
@prp I suspect it may survive as it will probably be split 70-30 towards the surplus side. And learned road seems like an ideal boundary

Algester’s Electoral Profile shows that it has an enrolment of 40,000 as well as have 5 canidates appear on the ballot.

Why is there an independent KAP member running here? This is far from Katter Country.
I think he’s running as an independent because this isn’t Katter country, but he lives in the seat. He is a member of the KAP, and aligns with their policies/values.
