Batman by-election – read the guide

Federal Labor MP David Feeney has just announced that he will be resigning from his seat of Batman after failing to prove that he had renounced his British citizenship, and won’t be contesting the subsequent by-election.

It is expected that the race will be between five-time Greens candidate Alex Bhathal and ACTU president Ged Kearney.

  1. David Feeney was an unpopular local member, given the comparison between the Senate and House of Representatives votes for Batman at the 2016 election, I estimate personal vote of was -4%.

Labor’s vote should go up by a fair bit in this by-election and allow Labor to win the by-election even if the Liberals don’t run. The Greens will win the booths south of Bell street, wont win ones North of it.
