Geography
Mount Druitt covers western parts of the City of Blacktown, including the suburbs of Minchinbury, Rooty Hill, Mount Druitt, Marsden Park and Arndell Park.

History
The electoral district of Mount Druitt has existed continuously since 1991. It previously existed from 1971 to 1981. It has always been won by the ALP.

The seat was first won by Jim Southee in 1971. He had held the seat of Blacktown since 1962. He retired at the 1973 election.

Southee was succeeded in 1973 by Tony Johnson. He held the seat until its abolition in 1981, when he moved to the neighbouring seat of Riverstone. He retired in 1983.

The 1983 Riverstone-by-election was won by Richard Amery. He moved to Mount Druitt in 1991, and has held it ever since. He served as a minister in the Labor government from 1995 to 2003.

Booth breakdown
Booths in Mount Druitt have been divided into two areas: north and south. The north covers Bidwill, Blackett, Dharruk, Glendenning, Hassall Grove, Hebersham, Lethbridge Park, Plumpton, Shalvey and Willmot. The south covers Mount Druitt, Rooty Hill and Minchinbury.

The ALP won a majority of almost 78% in the north, and 72% in the south.

  1. Venus Priest was the Liberal candidate for the overlapping seat of Chifley at the last federal election, where there was an average swing of 7.34%.
    Will be interesting to see how much this swings at a state level.

  2. Venus Priest was against Ed Husic upon the retirement of 20 year MP Rojer Price, and with the whisper anti-muslim campaign against Ed.

    Amery will be retained. This one is a no-brainer

  3. There are more Green corflutes (candidate, Education and ‘NSW Not For Sale) in this seat than Labor/Liberal combined. Thought I was in Balmain 😀

  4. The Liberals actually won a booth in this seat (Minchinbury), which would almost certainly have never happened before.
