With a few elections finishing up, I have now made a number of additions to the Tally Room’s data repository.
The repository is something I made to deal with the poor state of election results data stored by state electoral commissions when it comes to state and local elections. The repository stores data that has been cleaned up and is in a tidy format and thus is easy to use to do analysis quickly without having to waste time collecting the data. I use it to build my election results maps and a lot of my other analysis. I don’t usually store federal election data in the repository, although there were some particular files that needed correcting after the recent federal election.
With state elections having recently been completed in Tasmania and Western Australia, I have now added those election results to the repository. Tasmania also had an election in May for three Legislative Council divisions and those results have also been added. In the process of making these updates I realised I had not yet added the results of the Port Macquarie by-election held earlier this year, so that has been added to the NSW by-election results dataset.
For each of these results, I have published a list of polling places with geolocations, results at the polling place and electorate level and full candidate lists.
The only part that I am currently missing is two-candidate-preferred vote figures from six Western Australian state seats where the original 2CP pairing ended up differing from the final pairing. There are also two others with 2CP data where the totals deviate slightly from the final preference distribution in that electorate. There is a text file with my WA 2025 file which explains this issue. It is possible this will be corrected when the WAEC publishes its final data later this month – if so I will update the data then.
I’ve been compiling this data for some time and the repository now contains quite a lot of data.
I now have data for seven Tasmanian state elections, seven Western Australian state elections and eight Queensland state elections. With the exception of the 2023 New Zealand election, the most recent elections missing from the repository are from 2007-08.
The most recent elections, including the newly-added data, are free from everyone to access. The older data is a benefit for $8 Patreon donors. If you find this data useful, I’d appreciate you signing up, and let me know how you use it!
