Nationals leader Dugald Saunders has made a shock exit from the leadership role, but will continue to represent the seat of Dubbo. It comes after his 19-year-old daughter Charlie Saunders featured in a documentary about her OnlyFans work, though that’s apparently unrelated to the resignation.
Reported contenders for the leadership are Steph Cooke (Cootamundra), Gurmesh Singh (Coffs Harbour) and former leader and former Deputy Premier Paul Toole (Bathurst). All great candidates, and a diverse group too, with both a female MP and a CALD (in this case Sikh Punjabi) MP in the mix.
Former federal Nationals leader Michael McCormack has endorsed his fellow Riverina MP Steph Cooke for the leadership role.
Saunders was thanked by McCormack, Opposition Leader and Liberal leader Mark Speakman and NSW Farmers for his leadership and his work in representing regional NSW.
