I’m not sure if Ian Cook will have another crack. I think the rusted-on Labor vote would make it hard.
He ran for a ward in Greater Dandenong at the 2024 council election and lost.

Labor was polling quite a bit better statewide when the 2023 by election was held, although turnout was a little down which probably didn’t help Labor, I remember it got very little media attention compared to the Werribee/Prahran by elections.
There is a significant ‘rusted on’ vote for Labor here but the 40% mark in 2023 is significantly down on Dan’s numbers, who rarely got pushed below 50%, the cracks are showing but not sure the Liberals have what it takes to actually win the seat, Ian Cook running third and directing preferences to them was probably a pathway to victory for them
