Honestly surprised it was still so close last time, while the real meat of this seat is in the Canberra periphery is it possible that despite the Great Koala National Park being more based on the North Coast plantations that this sort of thing could assist the Nats down in Bombala/Cooma? Seems a little insignificant
@Maxim, Monaro is a swing seat because it included Queanbeyan which is right next door to Canberra (and Canberra is the most progressive city in the country). The goal for the majors here is to win as many votes in Queanbeyan as you can since it has gone both ways before.
I think it’s better for the Liberals to contest because of its demographics. Most people live in Queanbeyan-Palerang LGA – very suburban and with ties to Canberra. Also, the federal Liberals, contest Eden-Monaro.
I don’t think the Nationals will happily give up their contesting right. The problem for them is there’s OPV and having a three-way race would split the Coalition vote.
