Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh has been elected as the Leader of the NSW Nationals, with Kevin Anderson (Tamworth MP) as Deputy Leader.
By-election for Dubbo?
@Mick – Dugald Saunders has stated his intention to stay on as the Member for Dubbo.
So much for a Port Macquarie by election scenario
Congratulations to Gurmesh Singh on becoming leader of the Nationals! As someone who grew up in the seat of Port Macquarie it’s an honour to have someone representing the Mid North Coast as Nationals leader.
He will also be the first CALD Nationals leader in Australia (if I recall correctly).
Sir Joh?
Glayds, Morris Iemma and Nick Greiner were CALD leaders as well but not Nationals
As are Peter Malinanukas, Lia Finnochio and David Crissafuli
Actually George Soutris former National leader in NSW was of Greek background.
@Caleb there would be no PM by election scenario anyway
If considering Federal party/government leaders in the Senate, there are more individuals from non-Anglo backgrounds.
Both Eric Abetz and Mathias Cormann were from non-Anglo European backgrounds and current Senate leader Penny Wong is of Asian background.
@Real Talk and @Nimalan, my bad. I meant first of non-European descent.
All good Nether Portal
I often say that non Anglo-Cetic Europeans such as Greeks, Poles, Serbs, Jews are CALD as they often practice different traditions While they are not People of Colour (a term which includes in Australia non European + Indigenious people.
