This is a seat that Labor won for the first time at at a General election. Labor also won this seat with a better margin than a statewide result. Even before Labor won it the it was trending Labor.
Nimalan, not sure if the South Coast of NSW including Bega could be comparable to the Surf and Bass Coasts of Victoria (places such as Torquay/Anglesea for the former and Wonthaggi/Inverloch for the latter). Both of these regional areas have large numbers of tree/sea changers moving in from Melbourne and this is resulting in both trending towards Labor.
Those regions in Victoria have much better access to Melbourne or at least Geelong in the case of the Surf Coast than the South Coast does to Sydney, which lends me to think the proportion of working professionals should be higher than on the South Coast (haven’t checked the data myself). I would argue Torquay in particular is becoming more typically suburban and much of the sprawl is actually heading north back towards Geelong as the established parts of surf coast towns are now stupidly unaffordable.
