@gympie I’m sure most people would agree with that. Unfortunately labor relies on Muslim voters to stay in power and it’s in their political interest to allow more of it. The problem is that their religion justifies it as above the laws of men and that’s how they justify it. If the Roman Empire never declined and fell the Ottoman empire never rises and Islam is reduced to a minor religion in Arabia or never really existing.
@Gympie “No immigration from countries where the culture includes the right to kill others for a variety of reasons”: Remember Peter Dutton’s widely condemned call to end all immigration from Gaza?
@John: “Unfortunately Labor relies on Muslim voters to stay in power and it’s in their political interest to allow more of it”: Remember Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s widely condemned comments suggesting Labor was deliberately bringing in Indian migrants to boost its vote, which forced the federal Coalition into damage control?
I would strongly advise you and all Tally Room members against making comments disparaging or calling for discrimination against Muslims
or any other religious or ethnic group. Setting some Australians against others and further dividing our community is the last thing we need in wake of the Bondi tragedy. Any attempt to divide our community further must be called out. Ben may consider stepping in if these kinds of comments are made too often.
Looks like Hastie is going to challenge.
I read that Hastie’s allies are rounding up the numbers. Ley’s days as leader are numbered but I’m not sure if Hastie is keen on challenging this soon. I also read that Taylor is a possible contender.
Now that Ben Roberts-Smith is arrested and charged, I wonder how it would affect Andrew Hastie’s standing among the Conservative Voters given Hastie had turned against Smith?

@ Marh
I have noticed people like Drew Pavlou and Steve Christou have defended Ben Roberts-smith in their socials with Drew Pavlou actually starting a petition. Right wing influencers such as Cancelled Thoughts have been angry that Ben Roberts-Smith was arrested. I think Nationalist voters will be angry with Hastie and advise to move to One Nation.
As I expected, the Ben Roberts Smith case has virtually ruled out a path for Andrew Hastie to win back voters to switched to One Nation and he knows it but now he faces an issue about how can a non-moderate try to confront One Nation.
I think By-election results now makes Andrew Hastie’s seat at risk of flipping to One Nation and him testifying the Ben Roberts Smith case has meant he went from last hope to a toxic brand within Lib-ON Voter Circles. BRS case also probably damaged Labor in this by election though as many Voters (especially nationalist ones) mistakenly thinks the trial was a political witchhunt.
This is definitely at risk of flipping. There was a strong One Nation vote last election and there’s probably a latent red One Nation vote from Mandurah to Secret Harbour.
I think One Nation see a Hastie-led Liberal party as a political threat and a leader who could win back some former Liberal voters off One Nation. The strong One Nation result in Secret Harbour was perhaps a way of putting Hastie on notice. Angus Taylor hasn’t landed many blows and in fact, One Nation has gotten even more popular since he became the Opposition Leader. I doubt Hastie will take over the leadership so soon given the BRS case.
What Hanson and One Nation has been most succesful at in Australia is not neccessarily taking power but Shifting what is known as the Overton Window. This is the range of ideas deemed acceptable for public discussion. Prior to Hanson in 1996 discussion on immigration policy, multiculturalism was a taboo. John Howard policies in the late 1980s lead to his first downfall and replacement my more moderate Peacock it may have also been the reason he lost the post 1993 election spill to Hewson who lost the unlosable election a month earlier.
Hanson impact was to shift the debate even during the time she was out of parliamenet for example during the Tampa after Cronulla riots where there was a focus on Australian Values. Tony Abbott approach to the boat issue would have also been influenced by Hansonism in part.
I think Hastie initially hoped that the rise of Hanson would allow a right ward shift. He was a driving force to drop Net Zero and adopt a tougher immigration policy even before the Bondi Terrorist attack. I think Hastie dream sequence was that One Nation would shift the Overton window to the right and that Libs would then elect him to stem the loss he would put on a polished version of Nationalism and he would try and appeal to get Red One Nation voters to realign in seats like Hawke, Whitlam, Hunter and even Brand seats that Libs have not won before. Hastie would have liked One Nation to promote a Monculture vision so she came through the middle and offer something halfway between multiculturalism and monoculturism. The BRS issue has thrown a spanner the works for him as this has animimated Right wing Nationalist like Sam Bamford from Two worlds Collide podcast who called Hastie a traitor due to the BRS case.
The video below shows how the Overton Window works
@Nimalan, it would be interesting to see if the current debate about multiculturalism could eventually shift Labor to also adopt more anti-multicultural/immigration polices as this was the case for Labor’s counterpart in Denmark (Social Democrats) where they adopted not only stricter immigration and asylum rules but also attempts want to ‘assimilate’ immigrants through having polices to reduce the heavy concentration of immigrants living a particular area (albeit only with public housing)?
@ Marh
In Denmark, i would say what has shifted the Overton Window is a party known as the Danish Peoples Party. It has forced parties to go further right on immigration. Denmark has most restictive immigration policies amongst all Western Countries. Today that party wants “Net Zero” immigration of Muslims
Also since Denmark uses PR it as a more multiparty system and I feel the Social Democrats only appeal to traditional Danish working class voters and does not appeal to Professions, gentrified suburbs or alternative communities. I feel the Green Left and Red-Green Alliance fills that void as well as Centrist Liberal parties for the professional middle class in Denmark, they only got 22% of the vote. So ethinic minorities in Denmark probably vote for the further left parties i mentioned. While Denmark has a high quality of life the language barrier means that it is usually not the first choice for best and brightest immigrants who often prefer the Anglosphere hence unlike Australia most of Denmark immigrants are humanitarian. If Labor goes too further right on immigration in Australia it risks losing votes to Greens, Victorian Socialists. As i mentioned in the McMahon thread if the Ethnic minority population rises in certain areas and white population decreases strategically like areas around Blacktown, Cranbourne (VIC), Logan area-Rankin electorate, Armdale (WA)- Campbelltown (NSW) etc it probably helps Labor electorally as it makes realignment a harder task especially given ONP is leading to racial polarisation. Denmark is also just a more White country than Australia so the arithmatic is harder for a centre left party.
