If Crisafulli goes down the OPV pathway – could this seat become an LNP target? Would Labor put effort in here?
This is interesting as before 2017 this seat went south of the river.
This part of Brisbane is arguably the most Teal-ish in Queensland. If the LNP are on track to win here, and they’re not going backwards in the regions, that’ll be a formidable coalition of voters.
Surely the LNP won’t bring in OPV with One Nation polling as high as it is.
I do agree that this part of Brisbanne is the most Tealish i would say Clayfield and Mogill are the same category and maybe to a lesser extent Ashgrove in parts. What is interesting about QLD compared to the rest of the nation is that the LNP can form a stable majority government with so few of the Tealish areas. Last election they won majority governemnt without picking up a single new seat in BCC. They have so few seats which are in BCC they only have Clayfield, Mogill. Carindale/Chatsworth and Everton (only a small part in BCC). They could in theory loose Clayfield and win Bundaberg and still have a stable majority in fact they can win majority governemnt with no prescence in BCC. In 2025 Federal election despite a landslide for Labor nationally the LNP still won a majority of the TPP and seats in QLD but they did not win a single seat seat in BCC. This is why QLD is different to the rest of the nation and why the realignment theory is more applicable here. Even outside BCC the seats that LNP won in Greater Brisbane which are more blue collar such as Redcliffe, Capalaba etc are very white seats and they did not make inroads into the Ethnic working class areas in SW Greater Brisbane. One thing that interesting is that Brisbane share of QLD total population has fallen over the last 50 years- https://www.abs.gov.au/articles/50-years-capital-city-population-change.
