The swing against the Liberals was extremely violent here and totally caught me off guard, what will be interesting is can Labor hold onto this for another term? I suspect One Nation will do quite well in this electorate.
I think One Nation would get their best result in Tasmania here. Unlike the other 4 Tasmanian electorates, it has no part of Hobart or Launceston. Its economy depends on primary industries, paper mills and light manufacturing. It is quite agrarian and working class and is the sort of demographic that One Nation would appeal to.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Braddon flips whilst Bass stays with Labor. Interestingly, both Braddon and Bass have voted the same way since 1996.
A recent EMRS Tasmanian state and federal voting intentions poll suggested that “One Nation is neck and
neck with Labor in Braddon”, although no primary votes have been published.
