Geography
Western Melbourne. Laverton covers the north-eastern corner of the Wyndham council area, and southern parts of the Brimbank council area, along with small parts of the Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay council areas. It covers the suburbs of Braybrook, Brooklyn, Laverton, Laverton North, Sunshine, Tottenham, Truganina and Williams Landing.

Redistribution
Laverton is a new seat, primarily taking in areas from Footscray and Tarneit, along with small parts of St Albans, Altona and Kororoit. Laverton took in Braybrook, Brooklyn, Sunshine and Tottenham from Footscray, took in Laverton North, Truganina and Williams Landing from Tarneit, and Laverton from Altona.

History
Laverton was created as a new electorate in 2022, primarily taking in eastern parts of the seat of Tarneit and western parts of the seat of Footscray.

Footscray has been held by Labor since its creation in 1927, while Tarneit has been held by Labor since its creation in 2002.

Labor won a majority of the two-party-preferred vote in all three areas, ranging from 73.1% in the south-west to 78.7% in the central-north area.

The Greens came third, with a primary vote ranging from 8.4% in the south-west to 17.2% in the north-east.
