Geography
Southern Brisbane. Stretton covers the suburbs of Kuraby, Calamvale, Drewvale, Stretton and parts of Runcorn and Sunnybank Hills, at the southern end of the City of Brisbane.
History
Stretton was created in 2001, replacing the seat of Sunnybank which had existed since 1992.
Labor’s Stephen Robertson held the seat of Sunnybank and then Stretton continuously from 1992 to 2012. He served as a minister in the Beattie/Bligh government from 1998 to 2012.
In 2012, Robertson retired, and Stretton was won by LNP candidate Freya Ostapovitch with a 19% swing.
Ostapovitch lost to Labor’s Duncan Pegg in 2015.

Labor won a majority of the two-party-preferred vote in both areas, with 59.7% in the north and 64.7% in the south.
One Nation came third, with 11.3% in the south and 11.9% in the north.

A seat that I’m much more familiar with, and thank goodness the Duncan vs Freya round 4 is not going ahead. It seems quite a lot of LNP MPs from 2012-2015 just didn’t know when to give up (Anthony Shorten – Algester, Neil Symes – Lytton, Sam Cox – Thuringowa, etc etc) in either contesting the same seat or other seats. That being said, it’s a strong Labor area thanks to its diverse background. The recent Logan Motorway upgrades now completed should play well here. Although Calamvale Police Station could do with an upgrade, this electorate hasn’t got much happening and won’t see it really swing.

Fun fact: the Moreton Young LNP branch has broken ranks and have recommended putting LNP candidate Peter Zhuang last because of his support for China’s actions in the South China Sea. Mind you, said Facebook page has now been quickly removed, but it’s really not a good luck for Deb who is struggling at the moment.
Not that it would make much difference as the ALP will retain this seat.

So who do Moreton Young LNP want to preference first. Fully support placing any supporter of Red China last. Problem is there are always more candidates worthy of this position than positions to fill.
