Fremantle – WA Senate 2014

Geography
South-western Perth. The seat of Fremantle covers the City of Fremantle and the Town of East Fremantle, as well as most of the City of Cockburn and western parts of City of Melville. Suburbs include Fremantle itself as well as Cockburn, Coolbellup, Palmyra, Success, Atwell, Jandakot, Spearwood, Coogee, Beaconsfield and Hamilton.

The Liberal Party topped the poll in Fremantle, but with a much smaller vote than they received across the state. The ALP polled 0.8% behind the Liberal Party, but with a large Greens vote, Fremantle is a clear centre-left electorate.

The Greens vote, at 14.3%, was the second-best in the state. The Palmer United Party, LDP and Nationals all underperformed in Fremantle.

Booth breakdown
Booths have been divided into four areas. Booths in East Fremantle and Fremantle local government areas have been grouped together as ‘Fremantle’. Booths in Melville local government area have also been grouped.

A majority of the seat’s population lies in the City of Cockburn, and these booths have been split between Atwell-Beeliar in the south and Hamilton Hill-Spearwood in the north.

The Liberal Party topped the poll in three out of four areas, ranging from 27.6% in Hamilton Hill-Spearwood to 38.5% in Melville. The ALP topped the poll with 39.8% in Hamilton Hill-Spearwood, and dropped to a low of 28.1% in Melville.

The Greens vote ranged from 8% in Atwell-Beeliar to 25.7% in Fremantle.
