Lyons is a marginal Liberal seat covering central Tasmania, stretching from the outskirts of Devonport and Launceston in the north to the outskirts of Hobart in the south, as well as the central highlands and the east coast of Tasmania.
Liberal MP Eric Hutchinson won the seat in 2013 off longstanding Labor MP Dick Adams, who had held Lyons for twenty years. Hutchinson holds Lyons by a 1.2% margin.
