Geography
Southern Brisbane. Moorooka covers the suburbs of Acacia Ridge, Archerfield, Coopers Plains, Moorooka, Nathan, Rocklea and Salisbury.

Redistribution
Moorooka shifted north, taking in parts of Annerley and Tarragindi from Tennyson, Holland Park and Coorparoo. Moorooka lost an area on its western boundary to Tennyson, Forest Lake and Jamboree, lost an area around Pallara on its southern boundary to Calamvale, and also lost an area on its eastern boundary to Runcorn. These changes increased the Labor margin from 13.7% to 14.8%.

History
Moorooka was held by Labor in 2000 with a 13.4% margin.

Labor councillor Steve Griffiths joined the council in 2003 filling a casual vacancy, and was re-elected in 2004 with a reduced 6.6% margin. His margin was cut further to 4% in 2008, but he rebounded to 9% in 2012, and further to 14% in 2016.

    Booth breakdown

    Booths in Moorooka have been divided into three areas: central, north and south.

    The ALP won large two-party-preferred majorities on the council ballot in all three areas, with a vote ranging from 61% in the north to 67% in the centre. Labor’s majorities were smaller for lord mayor, ranging from 52.5% in the north to 55.7% in the south.

    The Greens vote ranged from 10.7% in the south to 18.5% in the north.
