Geography
Northern Brisbane, Marchant covers the mid-northern suburbs of Chermside, Stafford and Gordon Park.
Redistribution
Marchant lost Geebung to Deagon and also lost the south-western corner of the ward to Enoggera. Marchant then gained part of Wooloowin from Hamilton. These changes cut the LNP margin from 8.3% to 7.6%.
History
Labor’s Terry Hampson won Marchant in 1994. He was re-elected in 1997 and 2000.
In 2004, Hampson was succeeded by Labor candidate Faith Hopkins, who held the seat with a 3.8% margin, which was cut to 3% in the 2008 redistribution.
At the 2008 election, Liberal candidate Fiona King (now Fiona Hammond) defeated Hopkins with an 11% swing. King was re-elected in 2012 with a further 8.9% swing, and won a third term despite an 8.1% swing back to Labor in 2016.

Booths in Marchant have been divided into three parts: central, north and south.
The LNP won a majority of the two-party-preferred vote on both ballots in all three areas. The LNP vote was strongest in the south and weakest in the centre.
The Greens primary vote ranged from 11.9% in the north to 16.7% in the south.
