Seat profile #100: Melbourne Ports
– May 21, 2010

The seat is becoming the atheist capital of Australia with 23% atheist and over 10% no comment on religion (ABS: Census 2006). In Albert Park, Middle Park and West St Kilda the atheists are greater in number than the bigest Christian group the Roman Catholics, followed by the Church of England, Orthodox (Greek), other Protestants and other religions. In Middle Park there is only one Christian (RC) church left were there was once four a few decades ago. Most of the surplus churches are converted to apartment or knocked down (I like that the best) to make way for new apartments. “Religion is the Opium of the masses” a ratbag Commo once said but its true. Religious businesses are leeches too as they pay not council rates something that need to be addressed by a future government
