Deakin is an ultra-marginal Labor seat in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The seat’s margin was cut from 2.4% to 0.6% in the recent redistribution.
The seat was one of a string of marginal seats in Melbourne which swung to Labor while the rest of the country swung away from Labor, with sitting MP Mike Symon gaining a 1% swing and winning a second term.
